New Course Launch! L3 Award in Pre and Post-natal Exercise

Empiric’s newest course seeks to offer a helping hand to women in Dubai by certifying personal trainers and fitness instructors in safe and effective pre and post-natal exercise…

“We’re very excited to be launching the Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Pre & Post Natal Clients,” says Cara Standley, Empiric’s Managing Director, “and it couldn’t be at a more needed time.

“An increasing number of expectant mums are aware of the benefits of a well-managed exercise regime and are looking for professional guidance to support and enhance their pregnancy and postnatal experience. Yet, here in the UAE, there is a shortage of exercise specialists qualified to work with women who are pregnant or have recently given birth.

“The L3 Pre and Post-natal Award offers a great opportunity for personal trainers, yoga and Pilates teachers, and group exercise instructors, to develop specialist skills and expand their client list or business to a growing market. And having lots of qualified, trained exercise specialists is great news for all the pregnant and post-natal women in Dubai too!”

While the course itself lasts for two days, there are 2-3 weeks of pre-course reading to be done, plus coursework and a theory exam in order to attain the the final award. Course tutor, Tamara Walpole, explains what students can expect in her sessions:

“The course weekend will be fun, interactive and focused on giving fitness professionals the essential knowledge and skills to train pre and post-natal clients. There will be program design practice, practical exercise modification workshops, core training recommendations, and informal but informative discussions on how best to treat this special population group.”

The key topics covered by the course include the physical changes which take place during the ante and post-natal periods, nutritional requirements, the benefits of exercise, client screening and — of utmost importance to this group in which safety is paramount — risk management and recognising the contraindications to exercise.

Like the rest of Empiric’s training, this course comes with the highest stamps of approval available in the fitness world: it is assessed and awarded by the internationally esteemed YMCA Awards, and endorsed by CIMSPA. Students completing the course are awarded 10 UAE REPs points towards their annual recommended continual professional development (CPD) quota.

When selecting a training provider, it is important for personal trainers and other fitness professionals to know that their certifications are internationally recognised and portable for future career moves, but the quality of their qualifications matters to their clients too. Having a well-qualified instructor to guide them confidently and safely through pregnancy and post-natal exercise is just the peace of mind that any exercising mum-to-be needs.

Empiric’s first Level 3 Award in Adapting Exercise for Pre & Post Natal Clients training weekend takes place on 11 and 12 August 2017. Contact us now to book your place.
